My name is Jose Lopez, and I’m a graduate of VTC. Before coming into the court, my life was in disarray and the night I was stopped for the DUI, my plan was to change into my Army uniform and kill myself at Holly National Cemetery. My drinking and behavior were out of control. I was fortunate to have been allowed to come into the court. Unlike other legal programs, VTC makes you feel welcome, they help you and guide you and most importantly, they treat you as a person and not a number. It is not easy, takes commitment and accepting responsibility for your actions along the way, but VTC saved my marriage, my Army career, my civilian career and most importantly it saved my life. It has made me a better husband, father, and leader in the Army. Without the support of the staff and mentors, I would not be the person I am today. I will always be in debt to them, and I will continue to volunteer with them as long as possible.
